We're delighted to run regular walks for home educated children and their family on Dartmoor, all year round! As a home educating Mum herself, Director Hannah, is passionate about all kids have access to educational provision on the moors, whether they're in school or not.
From foraging to history walks, from storytelling to science - we'll be walking the land and thinking about a whole range of subjects and topics! These walks are suitable for those aged 7 and over and will cost £7.50 per person attending. Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome. Please see below details of our upcoming walks and a booking link! |

Friday 8th May: 1.30 - 4pm: Create Your Own Letterbox Trail We'll be meeting at Cold East Cross to think about letterboxes. For over 150 years, intrepid explorers have searched for these hidden containers so we'll be making our own potato stamps and working in teams to lay our own temporary trails for the others to find. Book Here! Thursday 21st May: 1.30 - 4pm: Introducing Dartmoor's Heritage We'll be meeting at Venford Reservoir to delve into the history of Dartmoor. Archaeological remains can be identified as belonging to 5 distinct named eras and during this walk, we'll match features with their eras and create a timeline you can take home showing what was built when and by who. Book Here! Thursday 11th June: 1.30 - 4pm: Exploring Water Filters on Dartmoor We'll be meeting at Shipley Bridge car park to wander up to the nearby reservoir, thinking about the importance of water on the moors. 40% of the water that South West Water delivers starts its journey by falling as rain on Dartmoor so we'll be looking at how that impacts the landscape and natural filtration techniques. Book Here! Monday 15th June: 9.30am - 12.30pm: Explore a Rainforest! Yes, we have rainforests! But do we have one at Shaugh Bridge? That’s what we aim to find out. We will use all our senses to detect these special features and explore this rare and rather magical habitat. Book Here! |
